November 20th, 2001. You've got mail. No, this is not some sappy romance involving Meg Ryan. I actually got a package in the mail today. I was putting my laundry into the washing machine when the doorbell rang. I was really surprised because, well, because I don't have any friends yet, so I couldn't imagine who was standing in front of my door. I was going to ignore it, but I had a bad experience with ignoring the door before, so I answered it. I'm glad I did. |

When it rains in Japan, it pours. This will come in handy for sure. Thanks Mom and Dad. I think it fits well, what do you think? (Click on the photo.) |
Although I love all the other contents of my package, this was what I was looking forward to most. I hear it tastes awful, but how bad could it really be? |

I did my laundry today and hung it up to dry. As I was leaving the room, I looked over my should and saw this. It was at this point that I realized just how different things are here. This is so foreign. It's such a minor thing, the way my room looks, but it made me feel really far away from everyone back home. It's funny how the little things can mean so much. Whoever said "Life is in the details" was right. |
I rented Star Trek: First Contact today. The movie was a little cheesey, but I figured it would be even before renting it. I wanted a cheesey movie, they remind me of home (right Bean?). =P I hit the stop button to rewind the tape and BOOM, there's Homer, Mr. Burns and Wayland Smithers fleeing the FBI with a trillion dollar bill. I never thought that I would be so glad to see Mr. Burns. I knew the Simpsons would be on. I just knew it! I kept faith and it paid off. 7:30pm on weekdays, noted. |

The credits kinda freaked me out a little. They didn't have the black background with the theme music playing, like they do back home. Instead, they have this. Well, no matter. The show was in English. |
Holy crap! They have Martial Law here. Looks like Sammo just bagged himself a ninja. Way to go! |
