March 6th, 2002. The Wanderer.

Got an email from Craig today. Says he might be back in Tokyo in as few as four weeks. Man, time flies. I still remember thinking it'd be forever until I would have the opportunity to see him next. That was back during Xmas time. Geez. It'll be nice to see him again.

I have rediscovered a passion for writing on paper, and as a result, haven't updated in a few days. I was sitting at work on the 4th, reading a book about the old Soviet Penal system called the Gulag Archipelago or something like that. Got to a part about interrogations and had to put the book down for a moment. Finding myself with nothing to do, I pulled out some scrap paper and started writing down whatever was in my head. When I was done, I had a short essay on the Japanese legal system (well, not really an essay, just a bunch of tidbits thrown together chop suey style and a little bit of analysis on my part). I felt so good that decided to write something else.

While I was learning Wing Chun, I had always thought that it would be a good idea to write down the things I learned in class. Not movements and such (though they are important too), but the theory I learned from my Sifu.

I started on this two days ago, this is probably the 4th double sided page and I am still on lower body positioning for the stance. There's just so much stuff! I can't believe how much of it I have retained. Anyway, all this writing shows me how much time I waste at home. Being in Japan, away from English TV and easy internet access, I can accomplish so much. But I have to admit, being a vegetable is fun, too.

Went out to lunch with M and her friend Purdey. Purdey's also from Toronto, but has a touch of an English accent. It's incredible, I think that I have met more from Toronto here than back home.

This shot was taken at the Raj Palace, where M, NY Claire, NJ Tammy and I went a few weeks ago. Lunch was great. We ate ourselves silly with curry, nan, rice and chicken...all for 1000 JPY. This is unheard of in Tokyo.

Both M and Purdey were on their lunch breaks, so I was left alone after eating. The weather was just incredible today, one of those days when you are glad to be alive and even more glad that you aren't working.

The birds were chirping early this morning, it was warm enough to go without a jacket, and the pimps hassling young women in front of Shibuya station were in full swing. Spring is here!

I walked about Shibuya for a while, just looking around. I'm slowly, but surely, being assimilated. Found myself looking at some hideous, brown bowling shoes that pass for foot wear here. I almost bought them too. *shudder*

Back in Miyamaedaira now. Just went to the post office to pay my rent (by depositing money into my landlord's account), and saw a group of people in there crowded around a disassembled ATM. There was one man standing beside it, apparently teaching something and the rest were staring at him. All of them were wearing protective gear. I've learned to stop asking questions. One guy in a hard hat and steel toes told me the post office was closed for the day. I looked at my watch: 4. I want to work for the post office.

As I was walking back home, I saw this on the side of the road. Shit, what is this? An XT? I haven't seen one of these puppies (5.25 floppy drive and all!) since junior high.

Came home and am just waiting for 8 o'clock to roll around so that I can head out again to meet M and Hinnie at Shinjuku. I'm not sure what we are going to do, but I hope it involves eating. I'm starved.

The sun was low enough in the sky that the light was becoming orangey. It was hitting the building just right, so I snapped some shots. It's kinda creepy. These shots remind me of a nightmare I used to always have when I was a kid.
