January 12th, 2002. Brian goes to Odaiba.

I have been wanting to see this place that everyone is raving about. Odaiba is Toyko's equivalent of Harbourfront, back home. It was damn expensive to get there, as there is only one way to go by train. I think that I spent about $15 that night, just travelling back and forth. Damn monopolies.

This is the first thing you see when you get out of the train station. I'm actually on an elevated walkway, about 30 feet of the ground. The Japanese have this thing with elevated walkways. They have them everywhere here.

They've got some weird-looking buildings here. Fran and I went to the Stratford festival just this summer and we ate at a novelty diner called The UFO Cafe or something to that effect. It was basically a large tin can, shaped like a UFO. This thing reminds me of it.

Ferris wheels and water seem to go together here. There was a huge, slow-moving ferris wheel in Sakuragicho as well.

Here's an interesting building. It looks like a tic tac toe board, with a huge ball at the top. All that's missing is Whoopi Goldberg in the middle square.

This is actually some sort of observatory or something. I was really curious to see what the big sphere at the top was. M and I went for a closer look. Everything was closed by the time we got there, so we couldn't find the way up. Instead, the following is what we saw.

Pacific Mall's doppleganger.

They have a bridge here called the Rainbow Bridge, which looks suspiciously like the Brooklyn Bridge. They also have this green statue in front of the bridge. It reminds me of something too, but I can't put my finger on it.

I tried to get a shot of the bridge, but it was too dark. So, here's a pic of me freezing my ass of instead.

M freezing her ass off, in turn. Also, sans bridge.

We had just come from a cafe called Positive Deli, which was pretty nice. While we were waiting for our food to come, M showed me a video of what she did on her New Year's vacation back in TO.

All the while, I couldn't help but be reminded of those anti-drunk driving commericals that have home video footage of kids laughing it up in a bar or party. I was just waiting for the solemn voice to come on and remind us the perils of DWI. Fortunately, it never came on.
