February 6th, 2002. Brian eats mutton, in stick form.

M invited me out with some of her co-workers tonight to eat some Indian food in Shibuya. Here's a shot of New York Claire (we went to another Indian place with her in Jiugaoka last month) and Nihon-jin Tammy.

M and I shared a set meal, which consisted of curry, tandoori chicken, curried fish, nan and something that looked like a bloated Slim Jim. That was the mutton.

Conversation was good. After we finished eating, we stuck around for a bit, and gabbed away. I found out that though NY Claire is my age, she's pretty well travelled. Lived everywhere from Cairo to Nepal to Thailand. NJ Tammy is from Vancouver, and is a real teacher back in Canada. All I had to offer was, "My name is Brian and I am in Japan."

NY Claire and NJ Tammy were playing 20 questions with me and we got a little carried away, forgetting about the time. Soon, the waiter came by and placed the check on the table, face down. A not-so-subtle hint to get the hell out.

This is a photo of us standing across the road from Hachiko Square. M looks like she is toasting the gods, but she is, in fact, taking a photo with her phone. NY Claire and NJ Tammy didn't like that last photo I took because they weren't ready when I snapped it. They were pressuring me to erase it, but I promised not to put it online. I lied. Never trust a guy with a camera.

"That's right, we're going to need some test photos to make sure we have the right lighting for your skin colour. Listen, honey...I can't see much of your skin with all that clothes on. Don't worry, this is standard procedure. I'll make sure we destroy all the photos we take today. That's right, no one will ever see them. You can trust me, baby. Ok now, touch your toes."

M and I parted ways with NY Claire and NJ Tammy at Shibuya station. They went home and we headed off to Shinjuku to meet Hinnie for a drink. We wound up at a cafe/restaurant called Italian Tomato.

This is a large iced tea. Note that it's 80% ice. About 5 seconds into our stay, M was sucking air. She wasn't too happy about it, as you can see from the last shot. I couldn't help but laugh.

After finishing Gates of Fire, I was coming close to the end of my book supply. M generously lent me these two books to keep me busy. I wouldn't say that they fit in with my regular choice of reading material, but it's nice to expand your horizions.

Professor Foot visited my management class as a guest lecturer in my first year of university. A lot of what he said is in the book. Interesting stuff, but the writing style is a little dry. The other book promises to teach me something, though I am hesitant about reading it in public.

I'm getting better at cooking. Just made some pinapple/veggie stir fry with chicken today. Cooking isn't all that hard.

Good cooking is.
