April 25, 2002. Brian runs errands.

Ok, this has nothing to do with Japan or me at all. I`m at an internet cafe right now with M and there`s nothing I want to do online.

I was reading the Globe and Mail online and stole this photo. It's some hippie protester about to get the beating of his life by a rough-looking London cop (I think it's the goatee). From what I understand they used to be unarmed, hence the old joke about the British copper chasing the criminal: "Stop!...or I`ll say Stop again!"

God, that cracks me up everytime.

So, I`ve spent the past few days waiting in lines and trying to discuss complicated immigration matters in Japanese with the people at the Thai Embassy. Being in that place gave me a brief glimpse of what life is going to be like in Thailand. In Japan, there is some semblance of home, as they use the English alphabet here and there. But in Thailand, it`s all Thai. Good Lord, I have a funny feeling that I'm going to end up in prison over some small miscommunication. Guess I should figure out how to ask to call the Canadian Embassy in Thai.
